University sport in Slovakia
University sport in Slovakia began to write its rich history in 1919 when the Comenius University in Bratislava was founded, under the name of the Czechoslovak State University. At that time the sport on campus began to develop on the basis of need for healthy, sophisticated and harmonious way of life, especially thanks to the initiative of teachers and students of the Medical Faculty.
Among the sports, first began to stand out tennis at universities. Gradually began to assert other sports, among them athletics, fencing, swimming and team sports basketball, volleyball and soccer. At various stages of its development, many students - athletes successfully represented the first Czechoslovakia and later Slovakia in major European and world sporting events. The most noteworthy names like Komadel, Hopko, Golian, Mračnová, Šuranová, the present Bator Procházková, Moravcová, Halinárová and of course many others who have managed to establish themselves in an extremely strong international competition.
Slovak University Sports Association is a voluntary civic association of separate and equitable associations with nation wide coverage. Its mission is to create conditions for the activities of all entities associated with it in order to promote and ensure the development of higher performance sport at all levels. By the development of physical education and sport, it is trying to develop sporting values and help develop the sport in the spirit of college life. The biggest effort is to ensure the representation of university sports in events organized by FISU and EUSA.
